Nikki Samonas recalls trauma after intimate movie scene with Jim Iyke
Ghanaian actress Nikki Samonas has opened up about one of the most difficult moments in her acting career, revealing how intense public criticism nearly pushed her away from the movie industry.
Speaking in an interview, Nikki disclosed that she faced severe backlash after starring alongside Nigerian actor Jim Iyke in the 2012 movie ‘My First Wife’.
According to the actress, a romantic scene involving Jim Iyke sparked widespread criticism and harsh comments from the public, leaving her emotionally devastated at the time.
Nikki explained that she struggled to understand why people reacted so negatively, stressing that it was simply a movie role and not something personal, contrary to how many interpreted it.
“It was just a movie, please. The backlash was terrible. I wished the earth would open up so I could disappear inside. That happened in 2012, about 14 years ago,” she recalled.
The actress admitted that the criticism deeply affected her mental and emotional wellbeing, causing her to isolate herself and avoid social media entirely during that period.
“I really withdrew from people at the time. If I had known then that ignoring social media comments was the best thing to do, I wouldn’t have read them because the comments were really painful,” she shared.
Nikki further revealed that the experience became so overwhelming that she ignored calls from filmmaker Abdul Salam Mumuni when he later contacted her for another movie role, as she had temporarily lost interest in acting.
The award-winning actress also recounted how she landed the role alongside Jim Iyke.
According to her, the Nigerian actor was in Ghana shooting movies when he noticed her performance on another film set where she acted alongside what she described as “top actors.”
Impressed by her talent and performance, Jim Iyke later selected her to star in ‘My First Wife’.
