Suspect arrested over Deti shooting that injured two, Damaged property
Police in the Volta Region have launched investigations into a shooting incident at Deti, a suburb of Akatsi, that left two people injured and caused significant property damage.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, reportedly stemmed from a dispute that escalated into violence.
In a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service, the victims were identified as 44-year-old James Kpanda and 30-year-old Jonathan Kpanda. The two sustained gunshot wounds to the knee and eye respectively and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Police said a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, two motorbikes and a fence wall were also damaged during the incident.
Preliminary investigations revealed that at about 10:30 a.m., a group of young men, including the victims, allegedly went to the residence of Mensah Awagah and began demolishing sections of his fence wall.
According to the police, the suspect became enraged, entered his room, retrieved a firearm and opened fire on the group, resulting in the injuries.
The police have since commenced investigations into the case, which involves allegations of attempted murder and unlawful destruction of property. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
