22-year-old Okada rider murdered at Nyame Bekyere

Residents of Nyame Bekyere, a farming community near Akoase in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region, have been left in shock following the murder of a 22-year-old commercial motorcycle rider.

The deceased, identified as Eric Nyarko, popularly known as “Junior,” was allegedly killed while carrying out his Okada business.

Family members and fellow riders are calling on the Ghana Police Service to intensify investigations and improve security in the area.

According to the deceased’s sister, Darkoa Grace, Eric left home for work but failed to return.

She explained that after several unsuccessful attempts to locate him, the family called his mobile phone, which was answered by an unknown person before the phone was later switched off.

The family subsequently received information that the young rider had been murdered.

Grace appealed to the police to conduct thorough investigations and ensure the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, some Okada riders and relatives of the deceased say the incident has created fear among commercial riders operating in the area.

According to them, this is not the first time such an attack has occurred at Nyame Bekyere, alleging that similar incidents have happened there in the past.

They are therefore appealing to security agencies and local authorities to treat the matter as a serious security concern to help protect residents and commercial motorcycle riders.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw for preservation and further investigations, while police begin a manhunt for the unidentified assailants.
