C/R: 25-year-old fetish priest uses client for rituals – Police reveal
A 25-year-old fetish priest has allegedly murdered a 40-year-old trader from Akweley, Kasoa in the Central Region, who had reportedly gone to seek spiritual and herbal assistance from him.
At a press briefing in Accra on May 12, 2026, COP/Ms Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), detailed how the victim was allegedly murdered by the priest from whom she had sought treatment for an illness.
“The Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department has arrested a 25-year-old fetish priest and herbalist in connection with the murder of Joyce Akua Ampomah, a 40-year-old trader from Akweley, Kasoa, whose mutilated body was discovered at Awutu-Bentum near Gyei-Kodua in the Central Region,” she said.
“Investigations established that the deceased had previously sought herbal treatment from the suspect in 2025 for a swollen leg condition.”
She added that, “On March 4, 2026, she reportedly visited him again for spiritual assistance to protect her business. After consultations at his shrine, the suspect allegedly lured her into a nearby bush under the pretext of collecting herbs, where he attacked her from behind with a cutlass, killed her, dismembered the body, and concealed the remains in the bush before taking some body parts away.”
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect confessed to the crime and disclosed the various locations where he buried the body parts he had taken away.
“During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the offence and disclosed that he had buried the deceased’s head at Mafi Avedo in the Volta Region and the legs at his residence at Awutu-Bentum,” she stated.
