A 60-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old biological son following an incident that occurred after the teenager reportedly went out to play football with friends.
The suspect, identified as Eric Mante, is said to have been apprehended after the incident, which drew the attention of residents in the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect allegedly tied the victim to a quad motorbike and sped off with him. During the incident, the boy reportedly fell onto a tarred road near the Adonai Church, sustaining multiple injuries.
Residents who heard the victim’s cries for help are said to have rushed to the scene and rescued him from further harm.
The injured teenager was taken to the Legon Hospital for medical treatment, while police later arrested the suspect.
During investigations, Eric Mante reportedly admitted to the act, stating that he acted out of anger over his son’s behaviour.
The police have condemned all forms of violence against children and urged parents and guardians to resort to lawful and non-violent means of discipline.
Authorities have also encouraged the public to report cases of child abuse promptly to the police or relevant institutions.
