The Akyeamehene of Lake Bosomtwe Abono, Nana Yaw Badu and local drivers are appealing to the government to construct the Kumasi–Lake Bosomtwe road in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to Oyerepa News, Nana Yaw Badu explained that, despite numerous efforts to draw the government’s attention, their calls have so far been unsuccessful. He emphasised the significant tourism value of Lake Bosomtwe—the largest lake in the Ashanti Region—which attracts both local and foreign tourists during weekends, holidays, and special occasions.

According to him, constructing the road would not only boost tourism but also attract investors to the area, thereby enhancing its economic prospects.

Local drivers who operate along the route also joined the appeal, lamenting the poor condition of the road. They reported that vehicle maintenance costs have tripled, while spare parts wear out quickly due to the bad nature of the road.

The drivers believe that reconstructing the road would benefit not only them but also passengers and the many tourists who regularly visit Lake Bosomtwe.

The Assembly Member for the Abono electoral area, Hon. Osei Appiah Joseph, recounted how the contractor, Kofi Job of Kofi Job Construction Firm, abandoned the site shortly after the 2024 elections.

He called on the Ashanti Regional Minister to arrange for President Mahama, who is scheduled to visit the region on Saturday, May 9, 2026, to travel on the road to witness its poor condition firsthand and help facilitate its reconstruction.
