The Ghana Police Service has interdicted five of its personnel captured in viral videos engaging in conduct deemed to have brought the Service into disrepute.

The officers are Chief Inspector Matthew Blay, Chief Inspector Francis Arthur, Inspector Eric Osei of the Osu Police Station in Accra, Sergeant Amos Dery of the National Protection Unit (NPU), and Inspector Joseph Okyere Asabre of the Obuasi Police District.

The interdiction follows the circulation of videos in which one officer is allegedly seen demanding money to allow illegal miners to continue operating at a mining site.

The other officers were captured in an unrelated video allegedly accepting bribes during a routine check.

According to the Police Service, the officers have been handed over to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for investigation in line with internal disciplinary procedures.

The Service has reiterated its commitment to professionalism, integrity and accountability, assuring the public that appropriate action will be taken upon the conclusion of investigations.
