A widow and mother of seven, Veronica Asare, has appealed for assistance after alleging that she has been facing distressing experiences following the loss of GH¢30,000 intended for the upkeep of her children.
Veronica claims the amount formed part of GH¢40,000 raised from her late husband’s pension to support the family after his death. However, she said she later gave GH¢30,000 to a man identified as Elder Ebenezer of a church in Bekwai Dompoase, who had promised to marry her.
According to her, the man convinced her to hand over the money under the pretext of investing it. She said he explained that he had an investment yet to mature and was also undertaking a building project, assuring her he would refund the money once his funds became available.
Speaking on Ayerepa Afutuo, on April 30, 2026, Veronica said she initially resisted but eventually gave in to his persistent requests.
“He told me he had money in the bank for marriage and for his building project. I informed him the money was meant for my children, but he insisted and promised to return it,” she recounted.
She said the situation took a turn when her eldest son was due to enter secondary school and she could not afford the necessary expenses.
Veronica further alleged that since the incident, she has been experiencing unusual health challenges, which she believes are connected to her late husband’s dissatisfaction over how the money was used.
She added that the man has since cut off communication with her.
“Three months after I gave him the money, he stopped answering my calls, and I have not heard from him again,” she said.
Veronica is now calling for help to locate the man and recover the funds, as she struggles to provide for her children.
