The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted bail to former Chief Executive of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, as investigations into alleged financial misconduct continue.
Mr Jumah, who was arrested on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢55 million. However, he remains in custody as his legal team is yet to meet the bail requirements.
Confirming the development, New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Paul Yandoh said the conditions attached to the bail are difficult to fulfil due to the large amount involved.
“As of last night, he was given a bail bond of 55 million Ghana cedis before he can be released from custody. I don’t have such an amount to come and bail him,” he said.
He added that efforts by the legal team to meet the bail conditions have not been successful.
“The lawyers cannot find assets that can amount to that figure… so he is still in custody,” he noted.
Mr Yandoh also questioned the size of the bail, describing it as disproportionate to the allegations under investigation.
“How can somebody go and sell scrap… and you are talking about over 550 million? Why?” he questioned.
Mr Jumah’s arrest followed a raid on his residence in Kumasi as part of an ongoing EOCO investigation into suspected breaches of public financial management rules during his tenure at GIHOC Distilleries.
