The Ministry of the Interior has imposed an immediate ban on the use of motorbikes in Binduri Township and surrounding communities in the Upper East Region, following a recent attack on a military patrol team.

The directive, issued on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, and signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, applies to all persons within the affected areas without exception.

According to the Ministry, the restriction is a security measure aimed at maintaining law and order, safeguarding lives and property, and supporting ongoing operations by security agencies in the area.

In a statement accompanying the directive, the Ministry called on residents and community leaders to remain calm and exercise restraint.

“Government urges chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, the youth and all residents of Binduri and surrounding communities to exercise restraint and remain calm,” the statement said.

Residents have also been advised to use lawful and peaceful means to address any grievances, rather than engaging in actions that could escalate tensions.

The Ministry warned that anyone who violates the directive will face legal consequences.

“Any person who contravenes this directive will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” it cautioned.

The decision follows heightened security concerns after the attack on the military patrol team, with authorities indicating that the measures are necessary to help restore stability in the area.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens across the country.
