Two suspected armed robbers have been killed following a police operation after a Mobile Money (MoMo) robbery in Tema Community 5 on Monday, April 13, 2026.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza, where a female MoMo vendor was attacked and sustained a gunshot wound to her leg.
In a statement issued by the Tema Regional Police Command and signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs, the suspects reportedly arrived on a motorbike, with one pretending to be a customer requesting a cash-out transaction.
Police said the situation escalated when the suspect drew a pistol and demanded cash from the vendor as she reached for her phone. A struggle followed, during which the second suspect joined in, and the victim was injured before the attackers fled with the money.
A patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit later intercepted the suspects near the Tema General Hospital area. The suspects reportedly ignored orders to stop and led officers on a pursuit towards the Smart Hotel area, where they allegedly fired at the police.
Officers returned fire, bringing the chase to an end. The suspects were subsequently transported to the Police Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and identification.
A search conducted on them led to the recovery of GH¢11,390, believed to be the stolen cash, as well as a black 9mm pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, three Android phones, several SIM cards, a talisman, and a Ghana Card belonging to the victim.
Police also retrieved an empty shell casing from the scene, suspected to have been discharged from the suspects’ weapon.
The injured vendor is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
