Former Black Stars defender Edwin Gyimah has opened up about a difficult period in his life.
Mr. Gyimah, sharing his ordeal on Oyerepa Afutuo, alleged that betrayal and spiritual challenges within his family contributed to the decline of his football career.
Gyimah, visibly distressed at times, recounted the struggles he has faced both professionally and personally. He attributed his situation to what he believes are spiritual attacks, allegedly involving close family members.
According to him, people he once trusted have turned against him, leading to the loss of his properties and leaving him in a difficult financial situation.
Despite enjoying stability during his playing career, Gyimah said he is now living under challenging conditions in Ghana with his wife and children. He revealed that he currently has no place to stay after an eight-bedroom house he built was allegedly taken over by his sisters.
“I have been sidelined. I don’t get contracts anymore. Last year I had about 21 offers, but I couldn’t sign any. I asked my family for help, but they didn’t assist me. They live in an eight-bedroom house I built, yet I don’t even have a place to stay,” he said.
He also described an ongoing dispute with one of his sisters over the property. According to Gyimah, she initially offered him GH¢50,000 in exchange for ownership of the house, but the situation has since escalated into a disagreement, with accusations that he attempted to sell the property to someone else.
“My sister said she would give me GH¢50,000 if I transferred ownership of my house to her. Now she is accusing me of trying to sell the house and make her homeless. At the moment, I am the one without a home,” he stated.
Gyimah further traced the challenges back to his time with the national team, claiming he experienced unusual health issues, including temporary loss of sensation in his eyes and severe back pain, which he believes were linked to spiritual causes.
“During my Black Stars days, I was dealing with spiritual attacks. Sometimes I couldn’t feel my eyes, I had severe back pain and other issues. I was told my mother had warned people not to help me and that what I was going through was spiritual,” he added.
