The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana is calling on transport unions and commercial drivers to hold off on planned fare increases following a 15% fuel price surge on April 1, 2026.
In an exclusive interview, the association’s president, Paa Willie, attributes the hike to global tensions, not taxes or dollar fluctuations, and urges the government not to scrap the ₵1 fuel tax as it won’t make a difference.
Paa Willie calls on transport operators to wait until after President Mahama’s cabinet meeting, following which the national executives will meet with the minister before taking any action on transport fare increases.
Yaw Kwakye, Ashanti Regional chairman, acknowledges the challenges drivers face but urges them to listen to the national executives and wait for the outcome of meetings with President Mahama and ministers before considering any fare increases.
He is appealing to drivers to avoid fare hikes that could lead to misunderstandings with passengers.
