The New Ghana Social Justice Forum is cautioning Ghanaians about fraudsters targeting World Cup attendees with fake visa promises.
Yahaya Alhassan, president of The New Ghana Social Justice Forum emphasize that scammers claim to have “special” connections to secure visas, but the U.S. Embassy says applicants should apply directly without third-party agents.
According to Elliot Fertik, U.S. Embassy Accra Consul General buying World Cup tickets isn’t required before visa interviews, and travelers shouldn’t make non-refundable purchases before visa approval.
In his statement he stressed that all visa applicants should be aware that there is only one legitimate avenue to obtain a visa appointment – through the U.S. Embassy’s official visa appointment contractor
This clarification came after The New Ghana Social Justice Forum petitioned the U.S. Embassy about visa fraud scams targeting Ghanaians.
Victims of such scams are urged to report to the Ghana Police Service. Apply for visas directly at the U.S. Embassy in Accra.
