Special Prosecutor Lawyer Kissi Agyebeng says politicians are pushing to scrap the OSP because it’s a threat to their corrupt activities.
Speaking at a national dialogue on the office of the Special Prosecutor in Accra, Agyebeng stated that had it not been the good naturedness of the President John Mahama the office would have been scrapped by end of December 2025 in Parliament.
“Politicians don’t want us around because we’re bad news for them,” Agyebeng said, urging civil society to support the OSP. “Why do they want it scrapped? Because we’re a threat to their corruption,” he added bluntly.
“I’m counting down my days as Special Prosecutor, and when I leave, I want to say civil society created and preserved this office. It’s your handiwork – don’t let it die.”

He lamented attempts to undermine the office, emphasizing the need for civil society to demand its institutionalization.
“We should build institutions for the ages, standing the test of time,” Agyebeng said. He advised against focusing on individual reforms, stressing the importance of strengthening the OSP.
