The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects for creating and circulating AI-generated deepfake videos targeting President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Mrs. Lordina Mahama.
The suspects, Bernard Mensah (41) and Michael Ebo Sarfo were arrested on March 28, 2026, following intelligence-led operations and digital forensic analysis.
The deepfakes were circulated on Facebook, TikTok, and WhatsApp, aiming to defraud and deceive people. Mensah, aka “Charity,” was behind a Facebook account spreading the fake content, while Michael impersonated the former President on social media.
DCOP Grace Ansah-Akrofi warned that creating or sharing deepfake content is a criminal offense in Ghana, and the police will prosecute offenders. The suspects are in custody, assisting with investigations.

“We are stepping up our online presence and patrols to identify, arrest, and prosecute offenders,” she said.
