Kasoa: Petty Traders Clash with MCE and MP Over Market Demolition
Petty traders in Kasoa, within the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, have clashed with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and Member of Parliament (MP) over the decision to demolish the Kasoa Old Market and construct new stores.
The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly has stated that the traders will be relocated to the Iron City Market to allow for the demolition and renovation of the current market into modern mini shops.
However, the traders have opposed the decision, expressing concerns that the Assembly intends to evict them permanently and repurpose the space for other uses.
Today, the traders staged a massive protest against both the Assembly and the MP, Hon. Phillis Naa Koryo, accusing them of trying to displace them from their source of livelihood.
Meanwhile, the Patron of the Kasoa Petty Traders Association, Samuel Ofosu, said the Assembly did not adequately inform them about the planned demolition, issuing only an ultimatum to vacate the premises.
