The Koforidua High Court has reportedly granted former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, bail of GH¢800,000 with two sureties.
The decision, reported by GHOne on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, comes days after Blay was remanded in police custody following his appearance before the Akropong Circuit Court over a land dispute in Kitase, Eastern Region.
Blay had initially been denied bail after preliminary details of the case were presented. The matter involves a disputed parcel of land, with a landowner alleging that structures under construction on his property were unlawfully demolished.
Police investigations led to the arrest of five individuals accused of clearing the land with heavy machinery. One suspect reportedly implicated Blay and another individual, Nana Osae Ntifo I (also known as Dada), as the masterminds behind the demolition. While Nana Osae Ntifo I was later arrested, Blay was invited to assist with investigations but failed to honour the invitation, prompting further legal action.
Blay’s repeated absence from court appearances led to the issuance of a bench warrant, resulting in his arrest in Accra on Monday, March 16, 2026. Following his remand, he was held at the Akropong Police Station, where he reportedly suffered a spike in blood pressure and was transferred to a medical facility.
His legal team, led by lawyer Gregory Asiedu, challenged the remand order at the High Court, arguing that the detention was unwarranted. The High Court’s ruling granting bail is expected to facilitate Blay’s release, with his next court appearance scheduled for April 9, 2026.
