The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals in connection with the alleged killing of the Kusasi Chief in Asawase in July 2025.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Ashanti South Regional Police Commander DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba identified the suspects as Jamil Usman, also known as Babamu or Guru; Suleman Yasir Arafat, alias Obasanjo; and Ashiadu Sumbeida, known as Eyeshadow.
DCOP Nyaaba said ongoing investigations and intelligence operations led to the arrests, as well as the recovery of significant cash, weapons, and ammunition, and the identification of additional individuals linked to the chief’s murder.
He added that a key suspect, Illiasu, also known as Abodam, remains at large, and appealed to the public to provide information that could aid in his capture.
“These arrests reflect the police’s intensified efforts to tackle violent crime in the area,” DCOP Nyaaba said, emphasizing that the Ghana Police Service continues to conduct intelligence-led operations targeting armed robbery, unlawful firearm possession, and other violent crimes nationwide.
The Kusasi Chief, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, was shot dead by unknown assailants in July 2025.
