Death on Wheels: Okada riders’ desperate struggle to save lives on Pokuase-Mayera Road
Residents of Pokuase-Mayera in the Ga West Municipal Assembly are facing a transportation nightmare due to the deplorable state of the road network.
Okada riders are forced to carry sick people to the hospital, with some even falling and dying on the rough roads. The situation is so dire that drivers refuse to venture beyond Pokuase in the evenings, leaving commuters stranded.
When Oyerepa News reporter Bernard K Dadzie visited the area, he found the situation unacceptable and urged the government to intervene.
According to Richard Arthur, an Okada rider, the bad roads have led to exorbitant fares, with market women being charged GHC 20-30 instead of the usual GHC 1.
Kwabena Michael, a driver, lamented that the drivers are really suffering due to the bad roads, stating that their cars are always developing faults.
He emphasized that the Mayera road is a major link to Nsawam, facilitating business transactions, and urged the government to come to their aid and provide urgent assistance.
