Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital has confirmed that a security officer was assaulted while on duty, describing the incident as “deeply regrettable.”
The attack occurred on February 18, 2026, at about 7:28 p.m. at the hospital’s Labour Ward.
According to management, the officer had asked an 18-year-old visitor, identified as Gabriel Dimson, to relocate to the reception area because he was standing at the ward entrance outside approved visiting hours. The visitor had reportedly accompanied his mother and a friend to the facility.
Hospital authorities said the suspect refused to comply with the directive and allegedly pushed the officer to the ground before assaulting him. The officer lost consciousness and was immediately attended to by medical personnel on duty.
He is currently on admission and responding to treatment.
The matter has been reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command. The suspect has since been arrested, and investigations are underway to facilitate prosecution.
Hospital management stressed that violence against staff will not be tolerated, noting that security officers play an essential role in enforcing hospital policies aimed at protecting patients, visitors, and healthcare workers.
The public has been urged to cooperate with hospital authorities and adhere strictly to visiting protocols to ensure safety and order within the facility.
