UER: Three die in Bolgatanga mining pit accident

The Police in Bolgatanga have reported a tragic mining accident at Tarkwa, a mining community near Gbane in the Tongo District, which claimed the lives of three young men.

According to a police statement dated February 17, a loose slab of rock fell on the men while they were working underground, causing their immediate deaths.

“Upon receipt of the information, Police proceeded to the scene at Tarkwa. On arrival, it was observed that some young men had entered the mining pit and retrieved three lifeless bodies, which were being kept in sacks,” the statement noted.

The mining pit owner, Tii Musah, identified the deceased as his workers: Subil Nmabil, aged about 30; Musah Zipati, aged about 40; and Onyin Udasaa, aged about 35.

A police examination revealed that Subil Nmabil had a deep cut on his left rib, Musah Zipati suffered multiple head injuries, and Onyin Udasaa had a smashed right hand.

The bodies were transported to the Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga, where they were examined and pronounced dead by the Medical Officer on duty. They were subsequently deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
