Residents of Labadi township, including Apaapa-Burkina, Salem, George Alhassan, Macbels, and Ebe Town, a suburb of Accra, are facing a severe water shortage, and they’re pointing fingers at a contractor working on the area’s drainage system.
When Oyerepa News reporter Bernard K Dadzie visited the place, residents said the contractor, who was awarded the contract to construct a drainage system and tile the road, has abandoned the site since December, leaving them without access to potable water.
The construction work has damaged several water pipes, including a main pipeline belonging to Ghana Water Company Limited.
“We can’t understand why the contractor has just left the site without completing the work. We’re suffering because of their negligence,” one resident told Oyerepa News “We have to walk all the way to Osu and Cantonment just to get water. It’s affecting our businesses and our daily lives.”
The residents are now calling on the government and Ghana Water Company Limited to intervene and fix the damaged pipes. “We need water, and we need it now. We’re appealing to the authorities to please help us,” another resident pleaded.
The water shortage has been ongoing for weeks, and residents are getting desperate. With no end in sight, they’re counting on the government and Ghana Water Company Limited to come to their rescue.
