National General Secretary hopeful, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has pledged his commitment to work with whoever emerges as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming presidential primaries.
The NPP is set to hold its presidential primaries on Saturday, January 31, 2026, where party delegates will select the candidate who will lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
The race promises to be competitive, with five aspirants cleared to contest. These candidates officially filed their nominations and were assigned ballot positions during a balloting exercise conducted in October 2025 at the party’s headquarters in Accra.
The confirmed contestants and their ballot positions are:

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong – Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, holding the number one spot.

Dr. Bryan Acheampong – Former Minister for Agriculture, second on the ballot.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia – Former Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer, third on the ballot.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum – Former Education Minister, fourth.

Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong – Former NPP General Secretary, fifth.
Speaking to Kwesi Parker Wilson in an interview on Oyerepabreakfast Time, the former MP for Subin constituency, emphasized that his focus is on serving the party, not an individual.
“I instill discipline in the party. I am ready to lead the charge from opposition. NPP, we must make the party competitive again. I have the discipline they can trust and the strategy. Many believe the spirit in the party is gone. How can we go to an election and win only 88 seats out of 270? I have the experience they can trust and the discipline they can rely on,” he said.
He added: “I have been a grassroots person throughout. I will stand for the party no matter who is the presidential candidate. What Asiedu Nketia did to the NDC, we will do the same for NPP. We vote for the party, not the individual. I am not contesting to just manage the party; I am contesting to modernize it. We cannot keep doing things we did in 1912 and expect to be competitive today.”
