Kwabena Osei, a first-term Assembly Member for the Agogo Apentenyinase Electoral Area in the Asante Akyem North Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has been found dead in an apparent suicide.

The Assembly Member was discovered hanging from the ceiling of his home around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Confirming the incident to Citi News on Thursday, January 8, the Presiding Member for the Asante Akyem North Municipality, Frank Gyamfi, described Kwabena Osei as a young and promising leader in his early 30s. He noted that he had spoken with the late Assembly Member about personal issues just a few days earlier, on Sunday.

Mr. Gyamfi added that the body has been taken to the Agogo Mortuary by the police and that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

“I received a message from some colleagues that our Assembly Member, Kwabena Osei, is no more. I was shocked because I had spoken with him on Sunday. Reports suggest it was a suicide, but whether he took his own life or someone else was involved cannot yet be confirmed. I do not want to preempt the outcome of the police investigations, but he had been hanged,” he said.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
