Six people have died and two others are in critical condition following a tragic road accident at Sehwi Asikuma in the Bia West District of the Western North Region. The crash involved an aboboyaa (tricycle) carrying seven market women and a timber-laden truck.
Eyewitnesses reported that the timber truck was speeding when the aboboyaa swerved in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision. Despite the attempt, the truck reportedly struck the tricycle with full force, leaving it mangled.
Six occupants of the tricycle were killed on the spot, while two women sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to the Essam Cocoa Clinic, where they are receiving intensive medical care.
The rider of the aboboyaa reportedly fled the scene and has not yet been traced. The driver of the timber truck is cooperating with police as investigations continue.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and emergency responders quickly arrived to manage the situation, transport the injured to hospital, and preserve the bodies of the deceased at a morgue for identification.
Police have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
