A landlady at Agona Nyakrom in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region has died following an alleged assault by her tenant’s grandson, reportedly sparked by a dispute over sanitation.
The incident began when the landlady, Madam Charlotte, confronted a tenant for defecating into a polythene bag directly in front of her gate.
When questioned, the tenant claimed she had a stomach upset and could not reach the public toilet in time.
However, a heated argument ensued after Madam Charlotte questioned why the tenant chose to leave the waste at her doorstep rather than dispose of it properly.
Information gathered by Oyerepa News correspondent Nana Ansah revealed that the absence of toilet facilities within the house compelled tenants to rely on public toilets.
While the initial disagreement appeared to have settled, the tenant later accused Madam Charlotte of gossiping about the incident to others. In response, the tenant summoned her grandson, Paa Kwesi.
Upon his arrival, Paa Kwesi allegedly attacked Madam Charlotte, reportedly using a belt to assault her.
Shortly after the altercation, Madam Charlotte’s health declined rapidly. She was first rushed to the Nyakrom Health Centre due to complications from high blood pressure and was subsequently referred to a government hospital, where she was tragically declared dead on arrival.
An eyewitness, speaking to Nana Ansah, appealed to the police to conduct a thorough investigation and arrest the suspect.
Meanwhile, the case has been reported to the Agona Nyakrom Police Command for investigation. The suspect remains at large.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Agona Swedru mortuary for autopsy and preservation.
