The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency, Hon. Phillis Naa Koryo Okunor, has condemned the alleged assault on a journalist and civilians by Kasoa firefighters at the scene of a fire and pledged a thorough investigation.
The incident occurred today at Kasoa New Market while the journalist was filming a confrontation between firefighters and some civilians at the fire scene.
In an interview with Nana Ansah, Hon. Phillis Naa Koryo Okunor confirmed the assault on the civilians and the journalist, and pledged a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
She also urged civilians to exercise patience and avoid interfering in the work of firefighters to prevent such incidents in the future.
“It is rather unfortunate that this incident occurred. I have spoken to the journalist, who informed me that he is filing an official complaint at the police station. I will follow the case closely and ensure the truth comes out,” Hon. Phillis Naa Koryo stated.
Meanwhile, the assaulted journalist, Samuel Addo, Central Regional Correspondent for Class Media, explained what led to the attack.
“I was just filming the confrontation between the civilians and the firefighters when the officers pounced on me, took my phone, and began assaulting me,” the journalist said.
