Delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tema East Constituency have openly declared their support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, pledging their loyalty to him ahead of the party’s upcoming flagbearer race.
The endorsement came during Dr. Bawumia’s campaign tour of the constituency as part of his Greater Accra Regional outreach on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. The former Vice President, who was expected to address party delegates in a bid to solicit their votes, was instead met with an unusual but emphatic show of support.
As Dr. Bawumia prepared to mount the podium, the delegates reportedly stopped him from speaking, explaining that there was no need for a campaign address since they had already made up their minds. According to a report by GhanaWeb, the delegates told him he did not need to convince them further, as their votes were firmly secured in his favour.
Amid loud chants of “Bawumia! No change!”, the delegates unanimously declared their backing for the former Vice President. Despite several attempts by Dr. Bawumia to address them, they maintained that allowing him to speak would be a waste of time because their decision was final.
Dr. Bawumia is currently touring various parts of the country alongside other aspirants as the NPP prepares to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections. While all five presidential hopefuls are actively campaigning and enjoy notable grassroots support, political observers widely regard Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong as the leading contenders in the race.
The strong endorsement from Tema East delegates further underscores Dr. Bawumia’s influence within the party and highlights the momentum behind his bid to once again lead the NPP into a national election.
