The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition following a patrol operation at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The arrest was confirmed in a police statement dated December 21, 2025, and signed by the Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Superintendent Juliana Obeng.
According to the statement, the Kaneshie Divisional Police Command carried out the arrest during a routine patrol. The suspects were identified as Kwame Boahen, 35, a pillion rider, and Fatau Alhassan, 52, an okada rider. They were arrested on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
Police said the suspects had earlier drawn attention during a routine operation on Friday, December 19, 2025. When officers attempted to stop the motorbike they were riding at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle for a check, the suspects allegedly abandoned the bike and tried to flee.
“Upon seeing the police, the suspects abandoned the motorbike and attempted to flee but were arrested after a brief chase amidst resistance,” the statement said.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a pistol with serial number 39363 and the inscription “CS HEAND SUH,” along with seventy-two rounds of ammunition. Other items retrieved included an iPhone, an LG smartphone, a Blackberry phone, a keypad phone and two wristwatches.
The police said investigations are ongoing to trace the owners of the recovered mobile phones and to establish the source of the firearm and ammunition.
