The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asene Manso Akroso in the Eastern Region, Eric Ahinakwa, has appealed to residents to desist from littering the environment and to make cleanliness a priority.
Ahinakwa made the call in an interview with Oyerepa TV after a clean-up exercise in the district.
He emphasised that cleanliness is next to godliness and noted that, with the Christmas festivities approaching, maintaining a clean environment would help ensure a healthy and sickness-free celebration for all.
According to the DCE, preventing disease begins with proper sanitation, stressing the need for residents to avoid indiscriminate waste disposal and to keep their surroundings clean at all times.
He assured the public that the district assembly would provide dustbins to facilitate proper waste disposal and warned that sanctions would be enforced against individuals who continued to litter.
The Assemblyman for Atiaankama Nkwanta, Hon. Ibrahim Kuma, praised the DCE for his dedication and commitment to development in the district.
He further announced plans to establish a task force to address sanitation challenges within the electoral area, cautioning residents to refrain from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, as enforcement actions would be taken.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Atiankama Nkwanta, Nana Kweku Adu Amantem III, who doubles as the Adonten Hene of Atweaman, appealed to the government to rehabilitate the road linking Akyem Manso to Osenase, describing it as a critical route whose improvement would significantly enhance economic growth in the district.
Nana Amantem III also called for the rehabilitation of the local market, explaining that its poor condition has led to a decline in patronage. Additionally, he appealed for the upgrading of the town’s clinic to reduce the need for residents to travel to Akyem Oda or Asamankese for healthcare services.
He further urged the government to establish a senior high school in the community and to provide other essential social amenities. The chief concluded by expressing appreciation to the DCE for his continuous efforts in the area and prayed for God’s blessings upon him.
