The Kasoa South office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has arrested fourteen (14) residents of Senya Breku in the Awutu Senya West District for engaging in illegal power connections.
The arrests were made during a joint night monitoring exercise conducted by ECG in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service.
According to the District Manager for Kasoa South ECG, Engineer Dr Adamu Y. Usumanu, the team has observed a growing trend where some residents illegally reconnect their power after being disconnected for non-payment of bills. This, he said, informed the decision to intensify night surveillance.
Dr Usumanu confirmed that the suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned before the court.
He further urged customers using meters without bills to visit the ECG office to regularise their status and get proper replacements.
He also cautioned the public against dealing with goro boys, noting that these individuals often engage in illegal activities, including deliberately disconnecting community lines and extorting money from residents to restore them.
