Four Children Suffer Multiple Fractures After Falling Into Manhole at Weija Gbawe Cemetery

Four children have sustained multiple fractures after accidentally falling into a manhole near a church at the Weija Gbawe Cemetery in the Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

According to reports, the incident occurred after a man identified as Alhaji dug a foundation with a deep manhole intended for water storage close to the church premises. The uncovered manhole is said to have posed a major danger to residents, especially children who play in the area.

Some residents who spoke to the media expressed worry over the situation, alleging that Alhaji is attempting to put up a building in the middle of a road and on a natural waterway, a development they fear could cause severe flooding whenever it rains.

They further revealed that despite warnings from engineers at the Gbawe Municipal Assembly, the developer has continued with the construction work, ignoring concerns that the project obstructs both the roadway and the flow of water.

Meanwhile, the Founder and Leader of Christ Faith Overcomer’s Chapel, Prophet Blessing Seth Amoako, claims that Alhaji insists on continuing the project because “his party is in power,” suggesting he believes he can act without consequence.

The four injured children are currently receiving medical treatment, and residents are calling on authorities to take immediate action to prevent further harm.
