A trade disagreement between two fishermen at Apesika in the Afram Plains North District has turned violent, leaving one man seriously injured after his colleague allegedly bit off part of his lip.
The altercation involved Akli, the suspect, and Ibrana, the victim — both residents of the fishing community.
According to reports, the dispute began after Akli gave Ibrana half a cup of gari in exchange for a fish that was meant for Akli’s sister. However, two weeks later, Akli confronted Ibrana over the unfulfilled agreement.
Ibrana reportedly explained that he had been unwell and could not deliver the fish as promised, but Akli and his companion, Torgbe, rejected the excuse.
Providing details of the incident on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Nyankonton Mu Nsem, eyewitness Osofoba Enoch said the confrontation escalated into a violent fight involving Akli, his mother, sister, and Torgbe, who allegedly joined in attacking Ibrana.
During the scuffle, Akli is said to have bitten off part of Ibrana’s lower lip and swallowed it. When questioned moments later about the missing tissue, Akli reportedly replied, “I have chewed and swallowed it.”
The victim was rushed to the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital for emergency medical attention.
Police have since arrested Akli and Torgbe, who are assisting with investigations, while Akli’s sister — also alleged to have taken part in the assault — is currently on the run.
Authorities say efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the remaining suspect.
