The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has formally petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, calling for the removal of Abena Osei-Asare as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
According to A-Plus, the PAC Chair is unfit to lead a committee tasked with probing financial infractions, alleging that she was directly involved in several of the matters currently under investigation.
He argued that Abena Osei-Asare, who served as Deputy Minister of Finance under former Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, played a pivotal role during a period he described as marked by “reckless borrowing, fiscal indiscipline, and controversial contracts.”
“Her close association with the Ministry of Finance during the tenure of Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta undermines the credibility of her leadership,” the petition stated. “It is morally indefensible for Hon. Abena Osei-Asare to preside over a committee demanding accountability for issues that occurred under her direct watch as Deputy Minister.”
A-Plus cited specific cases, including the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) contract, the ECG–Beijing Jao Loss Reduction agreement, and the Service Ghana Auto Limited ambulance procurement deal — all of which are currently being investigated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
He contended that Abena Osei-Asare’s continued leadership of the committee compromises its impartiality and erodes public trust in Parliament’s oversight role.
“Such a situation not only undermines the credibility of the Public Accounts Committee but also diminishes public confidence in Parliament. It is inconsistent with the ethical standards of parliamentary oversight for someone so closely tied to the administration under review to lead hearings demanding accountability from others,” A-Plus argued.
This marks the second time the Gomoa Central MP has called for Abena Osei-Asare’s removal. On November 2, 2025, he publicly criticised her online, accusing her of previously defending Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, the former Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), who is currently under OSP investigation.
He reiterated that the PAC Chair’s past involvement in financial irregularities during her time at the Finance Ministry makes her position untenable and a disservice to parliamentary integrity.
