In a swift operation at Bronikrom near Hwediem in the Ahafo Region, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) has arrested several suspected galamsey kingpins, including a Burkinabe national.
The task force also impounded several vehicles and destroyed makeshift structures used by the illegal miners. The operation targeted an active galamsey site located barely 10 meters from the main Hwediem–Goaso Highway.
According to sources, the team acted on intelligence suggesting that the site had become a major hub for illegal mining activities, posing serious threats to the environment and nearby communities.
Authorities say investigations are underway, and the arrested individuals will be processed for prosecution.
