Two labourers have been sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour by an Adentan Circuit Court for stealing floor tiles valued at GH₵4,000 from their workplace.
The convicts, Abdul Ganiyu, a 28-year-old mason, and Godwin Akpa, a 31-year-old carpenter, were charged with stealing.
They were found guilty after a trial presided over by Angela Attachie, which concluded on October 10, 2025. The two had initially pleaded not guilty when the case was first brought before the court.
Brief facts
The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, told the court that the complainant, Frank Hadzi, is a foreman at Enok Holdings Limited and lives at Nanakrom, Accra, while the accused persons live at Adenta Aviation in Accra.
He said the two convicts worked as labourers at the same company and that on March 12, 2025, at about 3 p.m., the accused persons hired a Hyundai Getz taxi with registration number GW-6880-22 to the company’s warehouse at Adenta Aviation.
There, they loaded 15 boxes of floor tiles into the car.
One of the workers at the site spotted them and raised an alarm. When questioned, the two admitted that they were taking the tiles to Abossey Okai, a community in Accra, to sell.
The prosecutor added that they were arrested and taken to the police station, where they again confessed to the crime in their caution statements. After investigations, they were charged and brought before the court.
