The management of Promise Broadcasting Limited, operators of Oyerepa TV/FM and Promise TV/FM, together with the company’s General Manager, Otuo Acheampong, popularly known in the media industry as Sometymer, has filed a defamation lawsuit against former show host Mary Ohenewaa Afful and blogger Adu Sarpei, the operator of the online platform BBC Ghana Channel.
Ms. Mary Ohenewaa Afful, who formerly hosted the program Legal Matters on Promise Radio and TV, made false and damaging claims about the station and its management after her exit.
Adu Sarpei used his platform, BBC Ghana Channel, to publish and amplify those claims, with the intent to tarnish the reputation of both the media house and its general manager.
After exiting the station months ago, Ms. Afful accused Mr. Otuo Acheampong of harassment, allegations the plaintiffs describe as “baseless, malicious, and defamatory.”
Through their counsel, William Kusi Esq., the plaintiffs have served a writ of summons on the defendants, seeking GHC 2 million in damages and a public retraction and apology for the statements made.
Ms. Mary Ohenewaa Afful’s accusations have caused significant reputational harm to the company and its leadership.
