Former Okaikwei South Member of Parliament (MP), Nana Akomea, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect a humble and unifying leader to steer the party into the 2028 general elections.
Speaking during Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ‘Our Journey Together’ tour in the Bono East Region at Yeji in the Pru East Constituency, Mr. Akomea cautioned against choosing a flagbearer who is boastful, arrogant, or divisive in speech.
“We [NPP] need a leader who is not boastful, arrogant, or divisive in speech because an arrogant person becomes worse when given power,” he stated.
The former Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC) advised delegates to prioritize character, humility, and integrity when choosing the next flagbearer, noting that such a leader is best positioned to unite the party and secure victory in 2028.
“When you’re electing a flagbearer, choose someone who remains humble and cannot be easily corrupted by political power,” he urged.
Mr. Akomea praised Dr. Bawumia, describing him as a model of humility and discipline despite serving as Vice President for eight years.
“Dr. Bawumia has served as Vice President for eight years and yet remains humble. That attribute is unmatched by any of the other four aspirants,” he said.
He argued that Dr. Bawumia’s experience, competence, and character make him the best choice to lead the NPP into the next election.
“When it comes to experience, Dr. Bawumia is a champion, and there is no need to replace him. One important quality to look for in a leader is good character — someone who remains approachable even after becoming president,” Mr. Akomea added.
He concluded by emphasizing that unity, humility, and experience should guide the NPP’s decision-making as it prepares for the 2028 polls.
