The Independent Media Caucus for Development (IMCD), led by Nana Abeiku Baiden, has released findings from its latest nationwide survey, suggesting that Dr. Bryan Achampong could push the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries into a runoff if the election were held today.
According to the IMCD, a total of 34,736 delegates across all 16 regions of Ghana were sampled for the survey. The results show that none of the five leading candidates is projected to cross the mandatory 50 percent plus one voterequired to secure a first-round victory.
The survey findings indicate that:
-
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia leads with 10,901 delegates (31%).
-
Dr. Bryan Achampong follows with 8,091 delegates (23%).
-
Kennedy Agyapong is in third place with 5,569 delegates (16%).
-
Kwabena Agyei Agyapong attracted 390 delegates (1.1%).
-
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum polled 128 delegates (0.3%).
Notably, 9,657 delegates, representing a significant proportion of the total, remain undecided.
The IMCD report stresses that given the current voting intentions, none of the aspirants is likely to achieve the 50 percent benchmark in the first round, making a second round—or runoff—almost inevitable.
