The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to begin vetting aspirants for its flagbearer position today.
Per the party’s electoral calendar, the vetting was initially scheduled to take place between September 15 and 22, but no official explanation was given for the delay.
Reports indicate that former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will appear before the vetting committee today. Other leading contenders, including Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and former General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, are also expected to face the committee.
All five aspirants—Dr. Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Adutwum, Dr. Acheampong, and Ing. Kwabena Agyepong—have formally filed their nominations to contest the flagbearership.
The party is scheduled to elect its flagbearer on January 31, 2026. The early primaries, according to party insiders, are aimed at reducing internal tensions ahead of the general elections.
