A tragic incident has occurred at the Mankessim Market in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region, where a 50-year-old truck pusher, identified as Mr. Ofori, was found dead inside an uncompleted market store building.
In an interview with the media, some market women who had known Mr. Ofori for over 15 years expressed their grief. They revealed that he relocated from Obuasi to Mankessim due to financial hardships and worked as a truck pusher to earn his daily bread. However, in recent months, he fell ill and could no longer work, forcing him to rely on food and support from traders at the market.
On the afternoon of 1st September 2025, around 3:00 PM, he was reportedly seen battling for his life inside the uncompleted building, but sadly, he could not survive. His sudden passing has left the community in shock and sorrow.
Reports suggest that Mr. Ofori suffered from a medical condition known as a hernia, which may have contributed to his death. It was also revealed that he had a history of substance use, including cigarettes and marijuana, which could have worsened his health condition.
The Assembly Member for Mankessim Old Nkusukum, Emmanuel K. Baiden, who had known Mr. Ofori for about 35 years, expressed his sadness over the loss. He appealed to individuals, especially those working in Mankessim but originally from other towns, to ensure that their families and friends are aware of their whereabouts. According to him, this would make it easier to reach relatives in emergencies or unfortunate situations like this.
Hon. Baiden further urged anyone who may know Mr. Ofori’s relatives to inform them of his passing so they can claim the body and give him a proper burial.
The police were called to the scene and subsequently transported the body to the mortuary. Investigations are ongoing to establish further details regarding his death and to help trace his family.
