The Paramount Chief of the Nkusukum Traditional Council in the Mfantseman Municipality, Okogyeaman Okese Essandoh IX, has strongly dismissed claims that chieftaincy titles within the area are being sold.
Speaking during the coronation of Nana Adu Gyamfi I as the Domfrehen of Nkusukum, the Paramount Chief emphasised that chiefs are selected strictly through traditional processes based on merit, lineage, and qualifications, not through bribery or financial influence.
He highlighted the council’s achievements over the years, including donations such as hospital beds to the Saltpond Government Hospital and the establishment of the Victoria Event Centre, stressing that these developments are products of collective effort, particularly through the annual Odambia Festival.
Responding to criticisms that the festival, despite being celebrated for over 40 years, has yielded little development, Okogyeaman Okese Essandoh IX refuted the claims and urged the youth to participate actively in this year’s edition. The 2025 Odambia Festival, scheduled for October, will be celebrated across all communities in the Nkusukum Traditional Council, especially in Saltpond, as a means of promoting unity and development.
At his coronation, Nana Adu Gyamfi I pledged to serve the people with humility and dedication. He assured the council and residents of his commitment to fostering peace, promoting unity among the youth both at home and abroad, and helping resolve disputes between chiefs and young people to strengthen harmony in the traditional area.
The Paramount Chief reiterated his call for unity and collective action, noting that chieftaincy is about service and leadership, not wealth or personal gain.
