Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has led a high-level police delegation to the Savannah Region following violent clashes that left several people dead.
In a statement, the Ghana Police Service said the visit is aimed at engaging traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and community representatives in Sawla, Gbeniyiri, Giniri, and other affected communities to discuss measures for restoring calm.
The Service noted that the move forms part of broader security efforts to strengthen its presence in the region and prevent further escalation of violence.
“We urge all sides to remain calm and support the work of the security teams to achieve lasting peace,” the statement urged.
The clashes, which broke out on Sunday, August 24, in Gbeniyiri over a land dispute, claimed at least 10 lives. Six others were injured, three of them critically.
Reinforcement teams from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and other security agencies have since been deployed to stabilise the situation.
