A suspected thief narrowly escaped mob justice on Sunday, August 17, 2025, after attempting to steal banners from a billboard near the 37 traffic light in Accra.
According to a report by MyJoyOnline, the man, who remains unidentified, triggered an alarm while cutting down the banners, drawing the attention of passersby.
An angry crowd quickly gathered and chased the suspect, who in a desperate bid to avoid being attacked, climbed a large tree situated between the 37 bus station and the hospital.
“He came to steal banners at about 11 p.m., but the alarm went off. To avoid arrest, he climbed the tree,” an eyewitness recounted.
The tense scene attracted police officers, who intervened to calm the crowd and safely took the suspect into custody.
The man is currently assisting police with investigations.
