A dramatic gunfight erupted in the early hours of Sunday, August 17, 2025, when police foiled a robbery attempt at the Microfin Rural Bank in Gomoa Pomadze, located in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region.
According to reports, the suspected robbers stormed the bank around 1:00 a.m., overpowering and tying up four security officers on duty before forcing their way into the premises.
While preparing to cart away cash, the robbers were interrupted by a police patrol team that arrived at the scene. Upon sensing danger, the suspects opened fire on the officers, triggering a fierce exchange of gunshots.
Overpowered by the police response, the robbers abandoned their operation and fled the scene to avoid arrest.
Police retrieved several items believed to have been used in the attempted robbery, including two empty BB cartridges, iron bars, a saw blade, cutting plates, new padlocks, a pump-action gun, live cartridges, and a set of door lockers.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing as police intensify efforts to track down the suspects.
