A 34-year-old woman, Maame Ekua Badu, has allegedly been murdered by her boyfriend, Jehoshaphat Adiako, who is now on the run at Yesunkwa, a community near Ataabadze in the KEEA District of the Central Region of Ghana.
The incident, which occurred on August 2, 2025, has left residents in shock with the victim’s family demanding swift justice.
According to John Kofi Cobbinah who is an uncle of the deceased, Maame Ekua had previously complained about being abused by the suspect.
The deceased
“In May this year, my niece, Maame Ekua Badu, called and informed me that she had found a man, Jehoshaphat Adiako, who had expressed interest in marrying her. I advised her to take her time to thoroughly monitor behavior of the man before agreeing to his proposal,” Mr. Cobbina told Connect FM on August 14.
However, within a month, the relationship reportedly hit a snag with so many issues
“In June, she called again and told me the man is not a good man because he has started threatening her and that she had even reported the case to the police. I called the man and cautioned him to stay away from my niece. He later called and said he would want to come and see me, but he never showed up,” he recounted.
Mr. Cobbinah added that on the morning of the incident, he missed a call from the niece’s phone at about 9:44 am.
“I called back several times, but nobody answered. Later, the boyfriend called me and said my niece had left home to pick okro from a pastor nearby, but could not be found. After a few minutes, he called again and said he still had not found her. When I later called my niece’s number, the boyfriend answered, but after hearing my voice, he dropped the call. I started questioning him, and he was not forthright with answers,” Mr Cobbinah explained.
The family’s search for Maame Ekua ended in heartbreak. “I called the pastor she was supposed to pick the okro from, but he said she had not come around. They later told me they had found her dead body in a nearby bush. It is suspected that the boyfriend used a hammer to hit her head and broke her teeth as well. We took her to Interbeton Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival,” Mr. Cobbinah sadly indicated.
According to him, the suspect fled the community shortly after the incident, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
The case, according to him is currently being handled by the Elmina Municipal Police Command, but the family claims they are dissatisfied with the way the police is handling the investigations.
