A helicopter with registration number 9G-AFW made an emergency landing on Monday morning at Ampekrom, a suburb of Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.
This marks the second such incident involving the same aircraft in less than a week. On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the helicopter was forced to land at Ajumako Kokoben in the Central Region due to bad weather, just about an hour before the tragic military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region’s Adansi Akrofuom District, which claimed eight lives, including two government ministers.
In the latest event, the aircraft—operated by Volta River Aviation—was flying from Accra to Kumasi when severe weather conditions and poor visibility forced the pilot to land.
An eyewitness, Bakira Tahiru, headmaster of New Generation School, told Adom News the helicopter initially passed over the school before circling back within minutes in an apparent attempt to land. To ensure the safety of pupils, the pilot chose a nearby open space behind the school.
Four people, including two foreign nationals, were onboard. All escaped unharmed.
The helicopter was reportedly en route to Prestea in the Western Region before diverting. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident.
