The chief priest of Ga Blemã Ayawaso, Nuumo Omanye Shitse, has cautioned the people against the use of live bullets during this year’s Ayawaso Homowo festival.
According to him, their forefathers used gunpowder during the Homowo festival, and since they are emulating their footsteps, they should follow suit and use gunpowder instead of live bullets.
Speaking to Oyerepa news reporter Bernard K Dadzie on the sidelines of the Ga Blemã Ayawaso Homowo Festival 2025 Health Walk in Accra, the chief priest cautioned that anyone found using live bullets during the festival will face the consequences according to the laws of the land.
Nii Tetteh Fio, the Chief of Ayawaso, called on the youth to embrace unity and togetherness as Ghanaians during the 2025 Homowo festival. He noted that Homowo, which marks the end of a period of hunger and is celebrated with the sharing of kpekple among loved ones, is a symbol of unity and strengthens family bonds.
The chief made the call during the 2025 Homowo Health Walk, organised by the chiefs and elders of Ayawaso. He emphasised the importance of good health in celebrating the festival, and also urged citizens to prioritise personal hygiene to help address sanitation challenges in Ga communities.
