The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that one of its Air Force helicopters, a Z9 model, has gone off radar while en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
In an official statement, the GAF revealed that the aircraft took off from Accra at 9:12 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, with three crew members and five passengers on board.
The announcement follows reports of a helicopter crash earlier in the day at Adansi Brofoyedu, a community near Obuasi. The aircraft involved in that incident was burned beyond recognition, with no signs of survivors reported at the crash site.
Initial accounts suggest the helicopter may have collided with a tree, though the exact cause remains unclear and under investigation.
While the Ghana Armed Forces have not explicitly confirmed whether the downed aircraft is the missing Z9 helicopter, they stated that efforts are underway to re-establish contact with the aircraft and determine its status.
Authorities are expected to provide updates as investigations continue.
